Journey into red rock country

Prepare to see a lot of entrada sandstone, folks! That's red rock to the lay person. But first, our drive to eastern Utah took us past the windmills at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon.

Our first stop was Goblin Valley State Park. It is amazing! We loved climbing on the formations and buttes.
Below is Joe's favorite goblin.

Below is Marie's favorite goblin. :)

Our next stop was Moab. We stayed at an RV park in a one-room cabin. It's so much cheaper than a hotel, but it gives more flexibility for families with young kids than a tent. Plus, it allows for the camping feel. We liked it well enough to go again.

Below is one of "The Windows."
After a few hours at Arches, we went back to the RV park for a rest and a swim. Our last adventure of the day was climbing a sand dune off the highway in Moab.
After a much-needed shower, we hit the sack.
The next day, we were back at Arches. Below is a hike called Park Avenue.

Below was our favorite trail -- through slot canyons and crannies. It led to Sand Dune Arch, which Marie proceeded to climb atop.
We stopped at the Arches visitors center before heading home. It was a memorable trip, and we feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful state.

Goblin Valley? You visited my favorite place and didn't even invite me? After going to Southern Utah 4-5 times a year growing up, our 4-5 trips in the last 6 years feel like I'm starving. Those were such fun photos - I'm VERY jealous. I could really use a vacation!

Goblin Valley is one of my favorite places! Looks like a great trip. I love Moab too - I should have told your guys to do the Fiery Furnace hike. One of my favs of all time. The girls look adorable as usual...especially with sand all over their faces.

Seeing pictures like this makes my soul feel better. That's no hyperbole. What an amazing state, and being away from it you don't realize how much you miss it until you see it again.

Looks like a great trip with your family. Paul and I used to always hike Wilson's arch when we drove out of Moab on our way to his parents house in New Mexico. It was a great way to stretch our legs. The last picture of Liv cracks me up. I guess she thought he was thirsty. Ha.

What a fun trip! We went to Moab last year and went to Arches and climbed the big sand dune/hill off the side of the highway. I think I still have red sand in the pair of shoes I wore while climbing it. We went on a road trip through Colorado a few years ago and stayed in one room cabins at the KOA. It is a money saver. Plus you feel like you are camping, but you have a shower, restroom, and a bed to sleep on...perfect! I think our family is too big for a one room cabin now.

Great pictures! Looks like you had a lot of fun! I'm itching to play outside. "The sun will come out tommorrow," I keep telling myself.

What a fun trip. It makes me want to take a trip to Goblin Valley. Isn't it true that a lot of amazing beauty lies so close to us, and sometimes we see the world, and not our own backyard.

We went to Moab for the first time when Elizabeth was 18 months old and I was 8 months pregnant with Emilie. Sebron carried Elizabeth in a pack just like Joe carried Allison. We were both a little off balance as we hiked all over the parks! I was semi freaked out the entire time that one of us would just go over the edge at some point during the trip! Thanks for sharing your pics.
